FAQ

What is the difference between a decorator and a designer?

Interior design is the art and science of enhancing the interiors of a space or building to achieve a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for the end user. An interior designer is someone who plans, researches, coordinates, and manages such projects. Interior design is a multifaceted profession that includes conceptual development, space planning, site inspections, programming, research, communicating with the stakeholders of a project, construction management, and execution of the design. - Wikipedia

Interior decorators furnish and adorn a space with fashionable or beautiful things.

Interior designers may decorate, but decorators do not design. What differentiates a designer and a decorator is the level of education and experience.

Why do I need an interior designer?

Whether you need a little help on a small project, are starting a major remodel or building a new home, having an experienced design professional on board can help you move seamlessly and efficiently through the project. A great designer can also help you avoid costly mistakes.

Where do I start?

Think about your lifestyle. Do you want your space to be warm, casual and family friendly or more formal and dramatic? What colors are you drawn to? Online sources such as Pinterest and Houzz are great sites to find decor ideas and photos. Are you starting from scratch or do you already own pieces that we will be incorporating you want incorporated into the new design? Be prepared with some info about what you are looking for in your new space, along with your desired time frame for completion and budget to share with me on our first meet. We will meet at your home and talk about your wants and needs together.

What are your fees?

My fees are based on the scope of work. Depending on the project I sometimes offer a simple flat fee or a price per square foot. Smaller jobs are often billed hourly. Dancing Horse Interiors also offers a-la-cart services that add flexibility to meet your needs and budget.

What differentiates you from other designers?

I’ve had much success in other career paths, but working with clients to create the perfect space for them makes my heart sing! When I start a new project my brain catches fire - I LOVE finding creative solutions to make spaces that are functional, beautiful and unique for every individual client!
